Scheduler – Bus Connects and Go-Ahead Ireland network

We are looking to recruit a scheduler to join our scheduling team to undertake all aspects of bus and crew scheduling and supporting the delivery of Bus Connects network redesign, and the overall Go-Ahead network.  This scheduling role will be instrumental in the delivery of Go-Ahead Irelands delivery of the BusConnects network redesign, whilst also working with the wider schedules team on the rest of the networks operated by the business.

Key Responsibilities and tasks

Bus Connects:

  • To work closely with the NTA to create timetables for the new BusConnects network.
  • To work towards the production of cost-effective schedules and rotas for the BusConnects project, whilst interworking with the existing network where possible to achieve the required standards set.
  • To assist in the provision of resource information for costings purposes.
  • Provide information to relevant stakeholders as and when it is required.
  • Work closely with the project manager and Transition Manager to ensure deadlines are met and the project phases are delivered professionally and smoothly.
  • Liaise and work closely with other scheduling colleagues to ensure there is no overlap of tasks or mix up with affected routes.
  • Responsible for resource level monitoring of bus and driver hours, mileage and peak vehicle requirements (PVR).
  • Provide input to the planning process by recommending developments to the network.
  • Provide input into the depot allocation system.

Other tasks outside of BusConnects:

  • To work towards the production of cost-effective schedules and rotas for all current and potential Go-Ahead Ireland operations and to ensure the work achieves the required standards.

  • To assist in the provision of resource information for costings purposes.

  • To take a proactive approach to consistently review all the existing schedules and where appropriate suggest innovative methods to ensure that tender specifications contain cost efficient schedules.
  • Provide information to the Network Manager to assist in meetings with the National Transport Authority (NTA) about all service planning and schedules matters relating to both current and potential services.
  • To assist the Network Manager in monitoring to ensure that Go-Ahead Ireland’s contractual obligations with NTA are met, particularly relating to revised services and schedules.
  • To ensure that the computer database of all current and pending operations is accurately maintained, and updated in a timely manner and provide downloads to the managers as required.
  • Take an active role if monitoring the operation of services and reviewing as appropriate, eg, running time, lost mileage, QSI and where applicable report any areas of concern and suggesting possible remedial action.
  • To proactively support in developing appropriate working practices and scheduling conditions that improve staff productivity and cost effectiveness.
  • To take a proactive role in producing revised timetable information for the public within the timescales outlines by the NTA.
  • Responsible for resource level monitoring of bus and driver hours, mileage and peak vehicle requirements (PVR).
  • Provide input to the planning process by recommending developments to the network.
  • Provide input into the depot allocation system.
  • To undertake any additional reasonable duties at the request of the Line Manager.
  • To undertake any training and development activities at the request of the Line Manager.
  • Any other tasks as required by your Manager.
  • Responsibility in managing, participating, and complying with the Integrated Management System (IMS)

Competencies, desirable traits or attributes:

  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.

  • The ability to explain schedules information to a wide variety of staff.

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • A logical mind that is able to tackle unexpected challenges quickly and flexibly.

  • Ability to work within and deliver to timescales that are set.
  • A basic working knowledge or understanding of schedules and how to put together duty rota compilations.
  • A basic knowledge of the Dublin tendering market.
  • Good knowledge of current relevant legislation for example the Working Time Act and the European Drivers Hours.
  • Enthusiasm for the bus industry, transport networks and geography of Dublin would be a distinct advantage.

 

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Experience of planning work in a production or fast-paced environment.
  • Highly adept at technical planning.
  • Excellent understanding of both the operational area and the speeds of travel that buses can anticipate throughout the day.
  • Experience of working in a similar sized operation and meeting KPI targets.
