We provide modern facilities, tools and diagnostic equipment, clear career pathways, and strong hands‑on support. We are looking to recruit Apprentices that are highly motivated and have the ability to learn and understand complex Mechanical and Electrical systems.
For those of you that think this is for you and have what it takes read on…
Your apprenticeship begins with an 8‑week training block at the Go‑Ahead Group’s Wigan Engineering Academy, located at Go North West in Greater Manchester, UK.
To make this as smooth as possible:
- Travel from Ireland to the UK is fully provided, including flights and onward travel.
- Accommodation, breakfast and dinner are fully funded by Go‑Ahead.
- You will stay Monday to Friday during training blocks and return home for the weekends.
- All hotels used have an active safeguarding policy.
- While at the Academy, all transport between your accommodation and the training centre is provided.
This induction period gives you the core skills you’ll need before joining your depot team.
You’ll be guided by full‑time mentors who have completed modern apprenticeships themselves and understand the challenges you may experience. They’ll support you at the academy and back in your operating depot, working alongside local garage mentors during your on‑the‑job learning.
Your college blocks will also take place at our academies, delivered by the industry‑leading S&B Automotive Academy.
In your first year, you’ll return for extended training blocks, including hands‑on tasks such as a full engine strip and rebuild. These sessions help you understand how systems work and why maintenance is essential. Safeguarding policies are in place at all times.
As you progress through your first year, you will also be given the opportunity to gain a full driving licence, fully funded by Go‑Ahead.
