Go-Ahead Ireland (GAI) recorded over 26 million passenger journeys in 2025 according to the recently published National Transport Authority (NTA) Passenger Journey Numbers for 2025.
The journeys were recorded over the 37 PSO routes operated by GAI in the Greater Dublin Area, representing the highest ever passenger count for GAI and a significant 18.2% year-on-year increase.
The report for 2025 highlights a record-breaking year for passengers’ journeys across both the GAI network as well as the wider Transport for Ireland network, which surpassed 363.5 million journeys nationwide.
Notably, GAI achieved the highest percentage increase within the capital, and the second highest across the entire TFI network. Several factors drove the success of GAI in 2025, including the company’s participation in two BusConnects Network Redesign launches. This included the launch of 6 new routesin South County Dublin and County Wicklow and the introduction of the 73, GAI’s first cross-city service.
Dervla McKay, Managing Director of Go-Ahead Ireland, said: “The growth that we have seen each year since returning to pre-pandemic passenger journeys is a clear indicator for how vital public transport is within our communities. Having carried 18.6 million passengers in 2023, that number has risen significantly reaching over 26 million journeys in 2025 - a 40% increase in just two years.
This success is a testament to the continued rollout of the BusConnects Network Redesign Program as well as the trust the public has placed in our network - the result of the hard work and commitment from of the 1,000+ team members serving the communities they themselves live and work in.”
