Go-Ahead Ireland won big in October at the Apprenticeship Ireland Awards and at the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Ireland Awards. On 23 October, Cian O’Callaghan won the prestigious “Apprentice of the Year – Motor” award for his work as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic apprentice. Now in his fourth year of apprenticeship, Cian has been part of the Go-Ahead Ireland team for four of its six years in operation, and win is a fitting recognition of his hard work and dedication to his role. This marks Go-Ahead Ireland’s first entry into the Apprenticeship of the Year Awards and demonstrates the excellence of the apprenticeship programme at Go-Ahead Ireland.

Gary Bond, Engineering Director at Go-Ahead Ireland, said: "Cian has gone above and beyond in every aspect of his apprenticeship, and we couldn’t be prouder of his achievement. He has been with us for the majority of our journey as a young company, and I’m confident his future in the industry is incredibly bright, wherever it may lead him."

At the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Ireland Awards on 24 October, Go-Ahead Ireland was commended in four categories, winning the following:

  • Gold Award for Innovation Leader – Nicole Quadrelli, Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality
  • Gold Award for Operations Leader – Willie Cullen, Regional Operations Manager
  • Silver Award for Transport and Logistics Leader – Niamh Swords, Operations Director
  • Silver Award in Mobility and Transport – acknowledging Go-Ahead Ireland’s contributions as an organisation

Dervla McKay, Managing Director of Go-Ahead Ireland, said: “I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our fantastic colleagues, and express my gratitude to the entire Go-Ahead Ireland team.

“Our collective efforts have helped our organisation achieve yet another brilliant milestone, and I look forward to building on this momentum with the entire team as we continue to lead and innovate in the transport industry.”

2024 has seen Go-Ahead Ireland achieve new heights in the public transport sector, including achieving our highest year-on-year growth, working alongside the National Transport Authority in launching multiple phases of BusConnects services, and celebrating five years in operation. These awards are an affirmation of our dedication to our values, our commitment to connecting people and communities, and striving for excellence every step of the way.
